Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are growths that are noncancerous and occur in the uterus. They often appear during childbearing years and usually are never associated with cancer. Fibroids can range in size and can vary in number. Many women may deal with fibroids and never know because they often cause no symptoms. For some women, fibroids can be difficult to deal with and may need to be removed.

Dealing with Uterine Fibroids

You may not realize you’re dealing with fibroids until your doctor notices through a pelvic exam or ultrasound. For some women, fibroids may cause heavy menstrual bleeding, long menstrual periods, pelvic pain, and frequent urination. These symptoms may be influenced by the size and location of your fibroids and may vary in severity.

If you notice that you’re dealing with constant pelvic pain that never goes away or overly heavy and prolonged periods, it’s important to talk to your doctor to find out if you are dealing with fibroids. It’s also important that you see your doctor if you’re dealing with severe vaginal bleeding or a sharp pain in your pelvis that comes on without warning.

Your doctor might recommend certain medications to deal with uterine fibroids that will help regulate your menstrual cycle. These medications aren’t meant to eliminate fibroids but can help shrink them. Mostly, medication can help treat your symptoms and give you less reason to worry.

There are certain non invasive and minimally invasive procedures that your doctor may offer. Depending on the severity of your issue, you may need traditional surgery to remove the fibroids and ease some the symptoms you’re experiencing.
